6:00 pm – 6:20 pm: Registration & Entrance 


6:20 pm – 6:30 pm: Speakers

  • Reinier Moquete Introduction
  • Dr. Carlos Aguilar:  Overview
  • Representative from the Office of the Dean of Graduate Education

6:30 pm – 6:50 pm: Presentation 1: "A Path to and through Graduate School for Underrepresented Minorities"

  • Advantages of Graduate School
  • Deciding to Attend or Not and Who Can Help With this Decision
  • Research in Graduate School

6:50 pm – 7:00 pm: Q&A 

7:00 pm – 7:20 pm: Presentation 2 –"Funding your Graduate School Studies"

7:30 pm – 7:45 pm: Quick Questions for MIT Scholarship / Financial Aid Coordinator/Other ways to fund SM and PhD  

7:45 pm – 8:15 pm: Breakout Sessions with Professors 

Breakout sessions will include 6-10 students per professor /coordinator/someone who can answer questions and provide genuine advice from someone who has been down that path

8:15 – 8:30pm: Recap of presentations, points of contact for future questions, and next steps

The Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers, Boston Chapter (SHPE Boston or the Chapter) is a professional organization whose goal is to enable Latinos in the New England area (including MA, ME, NH, VT and RI) to pursue, obtain and develop successful careers with top research and development, high-tech (i.e., hardware, software and IT services), and communications companies, as well as other science- and engineering-based organizations.
